The Quilting Bug is a Patchwork and Quilting Paradise located in Cape Town, South Africa. We offer Long Arm Quilting, Internet Shopping, Mail Orders, Gifting, Kits as well as Courses.

Our vision is to promote quilting and patchwork and provide quality products at reasonable prices.

Our mission is to stock fabric and notions that will excite and keep the patchworker and quilter coming back.

Our boutique store can be visited in the lovely safe neighbourhood of Bergvliet. We offer a full range of services to delight your palette, from 100% cotton fabrics, patchwork & quilting notions, batting, a professional Longarm quilting & binding service, and more recently, a unique gifting range.  We currently have approximately 4000 quilting patterns to offer.

We offer classes catering for beginners through to advanced Patchwork and Quilters who are interested in honing their skills.  We also run Block of the Month Groups, and offer a multitude of courses including: Bag making, Festive creations, and Patchwork Teddy Bears.

About the owner:
Mandy has been an avid patchwork – and quilter for the past 23 years, and is an accredited Recognized SAQG Quilt Teacher. She has dabbled in dressmaking, decoupage, bisc-painting, fabric-painting, scrap booking and many other handcrafts, however Patchwork & Quilting remains her favourite. She enjoys challenges – tackling new quilting projects, trying different patchwork methods – and generally, the sharing of ideas and the interaction with other quilters who share her passion for the craft.

At any given time, Mandy is busy working on more than one quilt, as well as some other handcraft project(/s). She has designed a quilt for just about all her family members and close friends.

Mandy’s tertiary qualification focused on commerce, marketing and sales, allowing her to work in the corporate world for many years. She has held national positions, but her true passion was always to open her own craft shop and teach. The Quilting Bug has allowed her to combine her passions and realise her dream.

Mandy has designed her own quilt patterns and has been published multiple times in Stitches and Bears Magazine.

Mandy lives with her husband & daughter Jess.  ( The sewing machines are a given 😉 )
